Period Poverty | Dignity In Health

Across the globe – even here in the U.S. – millions of women and girls experience poverty in many forms and the lack of access to feminine hygiene products certainly are concerns of immense health risks.

On August 24, we feature Oscar-winning Netflix documentary, “Period, End of Sentence” followed by a panel of experts from our local community partners Planned Parenthood, #Happy Period and CouldYou?.

With Period Poverty, we highlight the importance of menstrual health in achieving the U.N. Global Goals, also known a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as it impacts health, sanitation, education, gender equality, and responsible consumption.

Learn about local efforts and best practices on how to engage the community in our pursuit to provide understanding on the health aspects of monthly menstruation when lacking basic sanitation and the need to #BreakTheStigma.

CouldYou? At UN Women LA’s 2019 Annual Assembly

The Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women invites you to join us as for our upcoming Annual Assembly: Belonging and Displacement: Uniting Heads, Hearts, and Hands. The event will take place on Saturday, June 22nd, 2019 at the Santa Monica Women’s Club.

‘Belonging and Displacement’ is designed to create an opportunity for Angelenos to open their hearts to women who’ve experienced displacement as immigrants, refugees, and unhoused individuals. We will learn about their unique journeys and engage in meaningful discussions to achieve greater belonging – locally and globally. Approximately 200 – 250 people are expected to attend and we hope to equip each individual with the resources to turn these discussions into actionable commitments.

‘Belonging and Displacement’ directly aligns with UN Women’s work around the world, and our role in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, including gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by 2030. Empowering women and girls has a multiplier effect that increases equity in our economic growth and development across the world.
